About Us
Lawson Farms was born in 1980 when Pat And Laura Lawson and their daughter
Suzanne purchased 88 acres of open land in Culpeper, VA with a house and a small
barn.
They spent the next 2 years fencing and cross fencing with electrified wire to create
10 paddocks on 45 acres to rotational graze sheep. Freeze proof waterers and sheds
were constructed in each paddock, and a mixture of orchard grass and red clover
were planted for grazing. An additional 35 acres were planted in alfalfa and cut for
winter hay.
Sheep Care Books
Like all shepherds, the Lawsons had the usual health, breeding,and lambing
problems. Laura kept an extensive journal listing the problems, causes, and solutions.
This journal, and her constant consulting with Veterinarians country wide, were the
basis for her first two books - LAMB PROBLEMS and MANAGING YOUR EWE. Her
third book, SHOWING SHEEP, came from their experiences showing their purebred
Suffolks, and working with 4H and FFA clubs.
Sheepskin Products
In 1984, the Lawsons began making wearing apparel from sheepskin and selling them
to friends and at local craft shows. The sheepskin products business grew rapidly.
Today Lawson Sheepskins are sold at major Arts and Craft Shows, through mail
order, and here on the Internet.
Sheep Gifts
The newest addition to the Lawson Farms family is the sale of sheep related gifts and
collectibles on our sister web site www.sheepgiftsandmore.com. Such things as items
for babies and kids, doorstops, everything Irish , and more. Of course these gifts are
in addition to the sheepskin products and the sheep care books that also make great
gifts.
Wholesale Sales of Books
The Lawsons found early on that Laura's books were easy to sell wholesale to
retailers, Sheep Magazines, Libraries, and Universities. Now, a market exists for
selling wholesale to anyone looking for an income opportunity, by selling the books at
shows, fairs, to 4H and FFA clubs, or to give to buyers of their sheep.
